Rivonia Trial

X

In South Africa, a country led by an oppressive apartheid regime, a group of men fighting for their rights had faced something that would not only become a turning point for them, but also the country they were trying so hard to mend. This group of men were members of the African National Congress, a party built to seek justice for black Africans and fight for their rights in the corrupted system of the country. On July 11th 1963, 12 members of the African National Congress were arrested on Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia for attempting to overthrow the government. They were charged for multiple crimes including recruiting persons for training in the preparation of violent revolution and committing acts of sabotage. Throughout the trial, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, a prominent member of the African National Congress, became a face of struggle for national and international racial equality. From the begging of the case, it was clear that this was not about who is guilty or who is innocent; it’s about the struggles and sacrifices of the people who had been suffering for years on end and would continue to suffer. In HaydarpasaMUN’24, things might not go the way they did in history. Now you have a chance to change it. And for that, we are looking for attorneys to defend Nelson Mandela and his fellow ANC members, prosecutors to make their case against Mandela and try to protect the laws of the country, and most importantly, for jurors to make the most fair decision. Because, as we all know: “It is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it”…
